Tom’s ’68 Street Fighter Camaro
Tom is a business man turned car guy. Aside from his insane LS powered sand rail and his 9 second drag Nova, he wanted something he could drive in style for quick trips to the grocery store for a gallon of milk and some eggs. What better to make grocery runs in than a full bore Pro Touring 850 hp 68 Camaro?
Tom found this “gem” for sale as your typical run down Camaro, although it being a California car the body was in good enough shape to only need a little bit of house cleaning. What better than a car like this to tear completely down and start over with?
First order of business was to pull out the worn out factory suspension and subframe. After minitubs were installed and the floor coated in black bed liner, in went our famous Speedtech Torque Arm Suspension system featuring our exclusive Articulink control arms, laser cut and jig welded long center arm, billet panhard bar and double adjustable shocks. This all bolts to a Currie 9″ sporting 3.89 gears and huge 14″ Baer rotors with 6 piston calipers. Finishing off this proven set up is a pair of gargantuan 20×12 Forgeline ZX3 wheels wrapped in 345-25-20 Nitto rubber. With the rear suspension done, attention went to the front of the car where a complete Speedtech Pro Touring subframe was installed. This included our high clearance control arms and sway bar which allow the huge 19×9 Forgeline wheels and 275-30-19 Nittos fit with ease. Double adjustable coilovers handle the bumps and ride. Steering duties are handled by a rack and pinion steering attached to ATS tall AFX spindles which feature steering and suspension geometry corrections and Corvette ZR1 super duty hubs. Whoa power comes from Baer 14″ rotors wrapped in 6 piston calipers.
Next step was to install the drive train consisting of a CBM Motorsports built 425 cubic inch stroker LS motor. Now if big cubes weren’t enough, this big inch brawler sports an intercooled Whipple supercharger that puts it on pump gas approaching the 850 horsepower mark on the engine dyno. All this power is transferred through a tried and true T56 6 speed transmission.
With the suspension and driveline in place the body was smoothed and sprayed with street killer satin black while a 6 point roll cage and Autometer gauges have been installed in the interior.
