Jim’s 1969 Camaro RS/SS Convertible — A True Transformation

When Jim first brought home his 1969 Camaro RS/SS Convertible from an auction, the excitement didn’t last long — just eight miles into the first drive, the “rebuilt” small-block gave out. Frustrated, Jim parked the car and left it untouched for years. Fast forward to last summer, when his son Jason brought his own ’69 Camaro to Speedtech Performance for a suspension and appearance overhaul. After Jason’s Camaro landed a magazine cover feature, Jim knew it was time to bring his convertible out of storage and give it the full Speedtech treatment.

Speedtech Performance Under the Skin

The transformation started by replacing the entire front subframe with a Speedtech Track Time suspension system, featuring high-clearance tubular control arms, a beefy sway bar, double-adjustable coilover shocks, and a power rack-and-pinion steering system for precise handling. A modern LS2 engine paired with a 4L60 automatic transmission now delivers smooth, reliable power. Out back, the warped 12-bolt rear was swapped for a custom Speedtech 9-inch Currie-built axle supported by a Speedtech Torque Arm rear suspension with Articulink trailing arms, an adjustable panhard bar, and double-adjustable coilovers. The result is a Camaro that blends vintage style with modern drivability — equally at home carving through an autocross as it is cruising on the weekend.
