Dean’s 1969 Camaro SS: Classic Style Meets Modern Handling

Dean’s 1969 Camaro SS came to our shop mostly complete, featuring a healthy 427 Big Block Chevy paired with a TH400 transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle. Dressed in striking red paint with black Z/28 stripes, a vinyl top, cowl hood, and houndstooth interior, the car stood out wherever it went. But as beautiful as it was, the Camaro was still running on suspension engineering that was over 40 years old, and Dean wanted the driving experience to match the car’s aggressive appearance.

To modernize the handling without compromising its classic muscle car vibe, we upgraded the entire suspension system. Up front, we installed our Speedtech Road Assault package, giving the Camaro a sharper, more responsive feel while maintaining ride comfort. Out back, we replaced the leaf spring setup with our complete Torque Arm package, improving traction and stability while allowing for precise ride height adjustment. We also swapped out the 12-bolt rear gears from 3.42 to 3.73, delivering a stronger launch and more balanced performance.
