Early GM muscle cars were known for riding relatively smooth and did well in straight line drag race situations. High speed cornering however was barely a concern and they were infamous for having poor factory suspension geometry. With today’s technology, correcting these issues with performance control arms helps but is only part of the optimum handling equation. Speedtech and ATS have combined for an entirely new approach to improving factory geometry by redesigning the focal point of the steering and suspension geometry, the front spindle.

ATS Tall Spindles aren’t just another visual makeover of a C4 Corvette spindle, they’re a completely new design meant to maximize geometry and performance handling. Manufactured from light weight and super strong forged 7075 T73 aluminum, the upper ball joint mount is raised 2″ to optimize camber curve, making a much greater improvement than merely adding a slightly taller ball joint to stock spindles. The redesigned steering arm and relocated arm mount position greatly improves Ackerman and brings bump steer numbers down to nearly zero. The hub positioning is also raised 1″ for a lower stance and lower center of gravity. Advantages of the GM OEM C7 hub include a sealed, maintenance free heavy duty bearing pack which offers a stronger load capacity, easily handling the abuse of Pro Touring style driving and larger stickier tires. The ATS spindle and C7 hub combination do not alter factory track width or bolt pattern allowing standard wheel fitment. It also replaces your factory smaller 7/16″ wheel studs upgrading to longer and larger diameter 12 mm 1.5 studs that are standard on the Corvettes. Brake caliper mounts are based on the C5/C6 Corvette mount pattern and easily accepts Corvette brake packages from GM, Baer, Wilwood, and others. At the forefront of all other aftermarket spindles, ATS Tall Spindles set the pace and should be considered standard equipment on any Pro-Touring build that needs the best of the best components and optimum performance.

Steering Arm Options

Steering arm design and positioning affect vehicle performance as they help control bump steer, Ackermann corner turn-in aggressiveness and affect turning ratio and speed. For ’64-72 Chevelles we have completely redesigned the steering arm to go way beyond the performance of a factory steering arm. As seen in the diagram below Ackermann is greatly increased. This doesn’t affect straight line cruising, but when it’s time to tackle those tight curves the improved Ackermann creates a noticeable increase in turn-in speed and aggressiveness giving you an advantage at the auto cross. The steering arms also help bring bump steer to almost zero within it’s travel range giving you better stability at higher speeds and a smoother ride while cruising. We have two options for our bolt-on ATS spindle steering arms, Option 1 is our standard kit, while the ExtReme Option 2 allows the bump steer to be adjusted for fine tuning.

Note: Choose your kit below. These arms are specifically for ATS spindles and will not fit a factory or other aftermarket spindles. These arms are also specific to their individual kits, they do not interchange with each other.

Option 1: Standard Steering Arm Kit- Our standard steering arm kit features arms machined with a tapered tie rod mount that maintains use of your factory style outer tie rod ends. It also includes extra long, billet tie rod adjuster sleeves and all necessary hardware. See photo, below left. For this kit order 30525 for 1964-70, or 30526 for 1971-72, see below.

Option 2: Extreme Adjustable Bump Steer Kit- Our ExtReme steering arm kit has the same enhanced Ackermann geometry as Option 1 but for those more serious about race tuning Option 2 adds components that make bump steer adjustable. The steering arms are machined for a stud style tie rod mount, allowing the use of the included spherical bearing style outer tie rod end and bump steer correcting shims. This kit is recommended for only those with the proper equipment and know how to adjust this type of system. See photo, below right. For this kit order 30522 below.
