Jim’s 69 Camaro Convertible

Jim originally brought this ’69 Camaro RS/SS Convertible home from an auction several years ago. Upon getting it home and going for a test drive he got about 8 miles down the road when the “rebuilt” small block Chevy grenaded. Frustrated, he took it home and just parked it. Flash forward to this past summer when his son, Jason, brought his black ’69 Camaro in for a suspension and appearance overhaul. When the Speedtech shop crew got done with it, it ended up getting a magazine cover shot. Impressed with Speedtech’s customer service, shop and products, Jim pulled the convertible out of storage and brought it to us.

We began this car’s transformation by removing the complete front subframe. It was replaced with a Speedtech Track Time suspension system, including a complete Speedtech subframe with our high clearance control arms and sway bar, double adjustable coilover shocks and power rack and pinion steering. An LS2 and 4L60 has found it’s way between the frame’s rails. Out back we found the 12 bolt rear axle housing was severely warped and broken. Along with a Speedtech 9″ custom Currie built rear axle we installed our famous Torque Arm rear suspension. With it’s long center arm and Articulink lower trailing arms, adjustable pan hard bar, and double adjustable coilover shocks, this car will now handle great at the autocross yet be a smooth and subtle weekend driver for Jim.

What was once simply a nice appearing car at an auction now has a brand new attitude and street prowess.
