’69 Old School / New School Camaro

Dean’s ’69 Camaro SS came to our shop mostly complete. The old school styling car sports a healthy 427 Big Block Chevy backed by a TH400 and 12 bolt, 3.42 geared rear axle. Sporting nice red paint, black Z/28 stripes and vinyl top, cowl hood, and hounds tooth interior this one really stands out at cruise night. However, this car is another great example of a beauitiful muscle car that was feeling the pains of the over 40 year old suspension engineering.

To get the project headed in the right direction, Dean had us remove all the old suspension and replace the front with our Road Assault package, which includes our tubular control arms, sway bar, double adjustable coilover shocks, and billet tie rod sleeves. Out back the leaf spring suspension was replaced with our complete Torque Arm package, designed to keep the rear axle located via a long center arm, lower trailing arms, and a panhard bar. Double adjustable coilovers control ride height and quality, and allowed us to get just the right lowered stance without changing the theme of the car. While we were in there we also upgraded the 12 rear axle from 3.42 to 3.73 gears.

Hard core Pro Touring fans might think we forgot to upgrade the wheels, tires, and brakes, but Dean wanted to keep the old muscle car styling and add the modern ride comfort and responsiveness of Speedtech’s suspension. Besides, he has another Camaro that will be getting the complete serious pro touring overhaul in the near future!
